Best Wedding Venues in the Portland Area *

Best Wedding Venues in the Portland Area *

L&L reader Jessica G. recently wrote to us seeking suggestions for ideal wedding venues around the Portland area. She and her fiancé were familiar with the lovely Chebeague Island Inn and Frontier in nearby Brunswick, but wondered, “Are there any other unique and special venues that particularly stand out?”

You bet there are! Just a few of our favorites:

The Portland Co – L&L contributor Jen just got married at this rustic venue in June, and L&L writer Jackie is tying the knot there next month. The waterfront complex near Portland’s Old Port has one large and one smaller space for events, with wood floors, exposed beams and raw space limited only by your imagination.

Diamond’s Edge – Located on Great Diamond Island, Diamond’s Edge is a newer wedding venue that offers two distinct settings, an art gallery in a former wagon shed for smaller events and a tent site on a sweeping lawn adjacent to a freshwater pond. Its history dates back to the Spanish-American War, when it served as a military base to defend Casco Bay. Trefethen Evergreen Improvement Association – Peaks is another favorite island setting among couples, and this intimate spot has become a treasured venue. With its stately flagstone fireplace, large deck and lawn, TEIA is all about authentic charm.

Ram Island Farm/ Wentworth Lodge – Home to the Sprague Hall meeting house and the private Wentworth Lodge, the 32,000-acre Sprague Estate in Cape Elizabeth overlooks Higgins Beach. You’ll need an “in” to be approved to host an event at the lodge, or you can enjoy this magical setting by renting the rustic cabin for a vacation.

Inn by the Sea – This luxurious seaside venue in Cape Elizabeth can host anything from a small elopement to tented weddings on the lawn to private events where couples reserve use of the entire property. Sink your toes into the sand at Crescent Beach, enjoy the gourmet fare at the inn’s Sea Glass restaurant, and relax at the spa.

Black Point Inn — Situated on a rocky peninsula just 15 minutes from downtown Portland, the historic Black Point Inn has afforded its guests breathtaking waterfront views for more than 130 years. The inn hosts weddings during the shoulder season — May and June, then after Labor Day – and will work with couples for weddings of under 40 guests during July and August.
