After Elissa and Brent got engaged, they had every intention of eloping. The idea of planning a large affair stressed Elissa out to no end. Lucky for us, they caved and had a dreamy rustic wedding at Meadows at Mossy Creek! The couple–with the help of their expert planner Katharine Marie Weddings–planned a day that was the perfect mashup of vintage and modern, bold and neutral, and indoors and outdoors.

With personalized touches like handwritten notes, manhattans before the ceremony, and a choreographed first dance to “The Best Things Happen While You’re Dancing” to represent their love for Christmas, Elissa and Brent poured so much love into every detail. Photographer and Junebug member, The Tinsley Co. did a phenomenal job capturing every moment of this special day. We’ll be here staring at these photos for the rest of the day if you need us!

Exchanging Wedding Day Gifts

During our first look, we exchanged letters with one another and made manhattans. In my family, my grandfather and father would make a manhattan for big celebrations and holidays and it’s always been one of my favorite cocktails. So before we tucked away for our ceremony, we mixed up a couple of manhattans and toasted one another before our guests arrived. It was a special way to start the festivities and honor all those who couldn’t be with us on that day.

The Most Memorable Chorus

I think both Brent and my favorite moment was standing during our ceremony and hearing our own voices sing the words of Come Thou Fount with the chorus of all the people who helped to get us to this moment echoing behind us. It felt like the perfect representation of what we wanted our wedding to be: a way to honor God and to acknowledge the people in our lives who have loved us so fiercely. Brent and I just kept looking at each other saying, “Best day ever? Best day ever.”

Why Meadows at Mossy Creek

We feel like finding Meadows at Mossy Creek was so unbelievably lucky. They had just opened the year before, so when we toured the property they hadn’t even finished landscaping. One of the things that was most important to me was having a venue that had indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces to use. I wanted to have an outdoor ceremony if at all possible, but didn’t want to spend the week of our wedding frantically watching the weather and trying to make a call on renting tents at the last minute. Meadows at Mossy Creek fulfilled those needs but was so much more. The owners had taken such time and paid close attention to the details of the space to make it an ideal location. The layout made everything for the day flow seamlessly.

How Conflicting Wedding Day Vibes Came Together

We have always liked a mix of vintage and modern, a mix of the neutrals and pops of bold color, a blend of the outdoors and the comfort of indoors in case the weather doesn’t agree—in many ways I thought these would feel like contradictions. All the vendors we worked with helped us pull this together into something cohesive that truly felt like it represented us and, most importantly, made our guests feel cared for and comfortable as we all celebrated together.

The Couple:

Zoee + Paul

The Wedding:

Waverly, Georgia

All of our vendors were insanely talented! One that I will mention was Kelli Woodell Fletcher. She designed our wedding “Brand” and invitations and killed it. She made my wildest dreams come true.

I have always wanted to get married at a camp. Just go somewhere, with our people, be together, and get married. And that’s exactly what we did. Honey Creek retreat center was perfect for us. I stepped on the property + immediately cried. It just felt right. It’s nestled beneath Trees filled with Spanish moss + most building are “A-frame” which is my dream. It fit every part of our vision, even down to worshipping together the night before + having sleepovers in camp style bunk beds all week.

I wanted to mimic some of my favorite things about 70s boho fashion. I knew I wouldn’t be able to just walk into any bridal store + find what the dress bc the style I wanted wasn’t typical + also, I’m plus size! When I found Reclamation I knew that was my designer! She catered the dress to my every measurement. And when I received the dress in the mail, it blew my mind with how perfect it was. I loved the flow, I loved the sleeves, I loved the fringe. I loved everything.

We really wanted to be as stress free as possible. We just wanted to be married and be able to live each moment on our wedding day, and enjoy our time with each other + the people we love. Also, our date was also the date that my late parents got married almost 40 years earlier.

Our ceremony was so special. Both of us have brothers who are pastors, so they both officiated our wedding. Some of our closest friends did the music, and did it perfectly. We chose to write our own vows which turned out to be one of my favorite decisions we made. That made it so much more meaningful to us as we looked into each other’s eyes and made covenant. Also, I lost both of my parents within the past couple years + we were able to personalize things to pay tribute to them in small ways. We all cried like big babies!

Our photographer, Cassie, was a dream. From our initial email, we just clicked and knew it was meant to be. She was so laid back + fun, and he talent speaks for itself. She captured every part (even the days leading up to it) perfectly. I couldn’t have asked for anybody better.

We wanted the overall vibe of the day to be chill, laid back, and focused on us + our people. I’ve always said I was born in the wrong era. I’m a 70s child at heart. So that’s where colors, decor, inspiration came from. Basically, everything was just transplanted from our house + local thrift stores.
