Picturesque Palace Wedding in Lisbon

Francesca and Daniele’s picturesque palace wedding in Lisbon perfectly embodies the magic of fairytales. The historic 17th-century Palácio Marquês da Fronteira is renowned for its dramatically landscaped gardens, baroque architecture, ornate fountains, beautiful statues, and spectacular azulejos—the famed hand-painted Portuguese blue tiles. With the help of their planner, Martina Morrea of Alchimia Studio, every single detail of their elegant affair was executed to perfection.
The couple set the tone with their sophisticated wedding attire. The groom donned a classic suit while the bride wore two beautiful wedding dresses starting with a vintage two-piece beaded fringe ensemble that belonged to her aunt. She later changed into a sparkly silver wedding dress with an open back from Millanova.
Surrounded by family and friends, the couple exchanged their vows at the magnificent terrace of the palace. Understated white florals and cascading greenery added just the right romantic touch to the elaborate exterior. From the tablescape to the cake, the details from the reception that followed tied in the intricate design and color of the blue ceramic tiling. Absolutely Magical Lisbon Botanical Garden Wedding

Our jaws dropped when we saw this Lisbon botanical garden wedding—geometric-shaped shrubberies, luscious greenery, and a gorgeous view of the city. From getting ready together to asking their maids of honor to officiate the wedding, Luc and João’s wedding was intimate, magical, and incredibly personal.
To add to the magic, wedding planner Muza Weddings Concept adorned their wedding altar with large clear acrylic blocks, candles, and black cubes. Plus, the reception decor was breathtaking: rattan peacock chairs, lounging couches, and vibrant green florals. You’ll have to see to believe, so keep scrolling to see photos captured by Hugo Coelho.

Planning Their Lisbon Botanical Garden Wedding
The most important part of planning was to plan a wedding that looked like us. We wanted to make something meaningful without being too influenced by traditions and the people around us. It was liberating and inspiring to be able to do whatever we wanted.

Celebrating Love
We’re most proud to have been able to gather all our closest friends and family to celebrate not just our love, but love in general. It was so important to us to give a message of tolerance because the ability to freely love who you love is sadly not given to everyone. We wanted to show that no matter if you’re gay, straight, or in-between, it’s all about the love you share.

Officiated By Their Maids of Honor
The most memorable part of the day was the symbolic ceremony. We asked our Maids of Honor (Luc’s best friend and João’s sister) to write and to officiate the ceremony because we wanted it to be very intimate and personal. It was a magical moment that had us in tears from the beginning to the end. They also included speeches from both of our moms. It was really moving.

Advice For Nearlyweds
Planning a wedding can be overwhelming and even more so during the COVID-19 pandemic. What we have learned during the process was to be resilient together. This COVID wedding was proof that if you are willing to compromise on your vision together, you can still get a beautiful wedding surrounded by those who really matter.

Congratulations to Luc and João on their magical Lisbon botanical garden wedding. And a big shout out to Hugo Coelho and the entire vendor team for creating this spectacular ceremony. If you’re on the hunt for the perfect wedding team, we’ve got vendors from around the world who can help you. Destination Wedding Advice
We would advise, especially for international weddings, to get a wedding planner you can trust. Our planners never steered us wrong!

Heartfelt Personal Touches
We wrote our own vows and personalized our wedding stationery, candles, and program. My sister sang while my now husband’s brother played the piano. Finally, both of our mothers lit a unity candle, which was incredibly heartwarming.

The Couple’s Perfect Playlist
My processional song was: GOD IS by Kayne West, which was an ode to my now husband’s love for Kanye West and praise to God who had brought us so far. The recessional song was This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) by Natalie Cole—need we say more? The song was perfect for us! Our first dance songs were Everything We Need by Kanye West and Darlin’ by Dante Bowe. This was another Kanye West favorite of ours and Harvey surprised me with Darlin’ on the dance floor, which was so beautiful.

Working With ItsAllAbout
Our photographers, ItsAllAbout were incredible. They made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera. They knew when we’d had enough, but didn’t compromise on getting incredible shots. The relationship we built leading up to the wedding helped us to develop a real trust with them.

Personal Touches in Portugal
Our ceremony felt magical. We wrote our own vows and asked our family members to read poems and verses of scripture. Each song played throughout the day was carefully chosen. There was a moment of prayer and reflection to Ave Maria for our family members and friends who were there in spirit on our special day.

Capturing This Classic Portugal Wedding
Our photographers, Aguiam Wedding Photographers, were a dream! We felt this immediately on our engagement shoot as well. Preparing for our first look, we laughed and felt like old friends with our photography team. For the ceremony and reception, they disappeared into the background, but it was evident from the photographs that they had been eyeing every detail— big and small!

DIY Wedding Favors
Our welcome bags were DIY and featured Portuguese snacks and elegant tile cookies from T Bakes. At dinner, each place setting featured a tile magnet labeled with the guest’s name.

Wedding Advice from the Bride
Wedding planning is so much fun. Find vendors who are communicative and responsive. We found it fun to keep the details a secret, so the majority of our family and friends were blown away by the day. Also, make sure you plan your time for the day. For example, create a list of photos you would like for the photographer, think about the order of songs you may like to hype up your crowd, be mindful of time for speeches, etc.

Congratulations to Loren and Gray on their gorgeous Portugal wedding. Special thank you to Aguiam Wedding Photographers for capturing and sharing this incredible day with us.
