Marva and Philip’s Magical Sorrento Coast Destination Wedding *

Picture a stunning Sorrento coast view, overwhelming support from loved ones, and a sunset ceremony. If you’re having a hard time picturing it, you’re in luck! Marva and Philip’s Sorrento coast wedding has it all.

Marva and Philip’s Italian destination wedding was a magical day that celebrated their love and honored their loved ones. This fashion-forward couple enhanced their wedding day attire—and honored their parents—by incorporating cherished family heirlooms. Every detail was carefully crafted with purpose and intentionality.

The Grand Hotel Cocumella—an enchanting oasis on the Amalfi Coast—proved to be a jaw-dropping ceremony and reception space. The towering floral arrangements by Pia Ruoppo beautifully framed the ceremony’s waterfront views captured by Junebug member Pasquale Mestizia Photography.

Pasquale Mestizia On This Sorrento Coast Wedding

Sorrento is a hidden gem that makes it ideal for anyone who loves magnificent views and beautiful culture. The rich history and the unique natural setting of Sorrento were decisive elements that pushed Malva and Philip to fulfill their dream of exchanging “I do’s” here. Due to the pandemic, there were many unknowns during the final weeks of the wedding planning. And yet, against all odds, Marva and Philip did it with no lack of laughter, hugs, or tears.

The Bride’s “Something Old” From Her Father

We exchanged very meaningful gifts. The groom gave me diamond earrings which I wore alongside the emerald earrings my father gifted me when I was just thirteen years old. I gave the groom a personal memento of his late father to wear on the inside of his tuxedo jacket.

A Destination Wedding Surrounded By Loved Ones

Love was tangible and present during every moment of our wedding. We were grateful all of our loved ones were able to be in Sorrento for our wedding weekend—against all odds and in the midst of a global pandemic. We’ll never forget the memories we made, and the joy it brought us.

Small Moments That Make For An Unforgettable Day

When I turned down the beautiful garden pathway with my Dad and saw Philip standing in front of the exquisite sunset, I knew I’d never forget that memory. For my husband, his favorite memory of that day is his mother’s speech. Poignant, eloquent, and heartfelt. All the moments we shared with her during the wedding weekend mean so much now that she has sadly passed away.

Destination Wedding Planning Tips

First, you have to have a balance of flexibility and faith that everything will work out. Especially in the current climate. Secondly, it’s really important to not get overwhelmed in response to challenges. The week of our wedding, we were forced to find an alternative venue. So many changes and decisions needed to be made but we grew as a couple in the process. Finally, have a plan but also follow your gut and don’t get hung up on the small details. The most important thing is your union.

The Importance Of Personalizing Your Ceremony

We personalized our ceremony by having our daughter as our ring-bearer. She was amazing—the fruit of our love bringing the rings of our union. It was also important for us to write our own vows. We chose ceremony music and readings that had special meaning to us. Everything felt so personal.

Kaitlin and Cody’s Intimate Red Rock Canyon Wedding *

Kaitlin and Cody’s Intimate Red Rock Canyon Wedding *

Weddings may look a little different these days, but they’re not missing the one thing that matters most–love. Kaitlin and Cody’s Red Rock Canyon wedding was small and intimate, but it was also a day full of sweeping desert views, unbridled happiness, and tears of joy. Not to mention fabulous floral arrangements from Elopement Las Vegas and a Justin Alexander wedding dress that was as timeless as it was glamorous.

After saying “I do” in a simple and stunning ceremony, the newlyweds gallivanted around the park with Junebug member Hotzel Photography. And we have to say, they shot some of the most beautiful wedding portraits we’ve seen to date. And to end their dream day, they enjoyed dinner and drinks with their closest friends and family at a Ruth’s Chris steakhouse. So whether you’re planning your own micro wedding or you want an adventure elopement in a faraway place, these desert nuptials are sure to inspire.

The Wedding:

Red Rock Canyon National Park, Las Vegas, Nevada

A Surprise Music Choice

Initially, we had chosen an instrumental song for our bridal party to walk out to. When the music started, and we all heard Elvis singing “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” it was such a surprise, but we all immediately started crying because it felt so right and fit the moment more perfectly than any other song we could have picked. Plus, we got married in Vegas, so we suppose Elvis had to be incorporated somehow.

A Close Friend Acting As An Officiant

We got one of our very best friends to officiate our wedding. We were already going to be in a new place, far from home, and we wanted someone standing up there with us that really knew us and our relationship. The ceremony was so much more personal and special coming from him.

Why A Red Rock Canyon Wedding

Both of us grew up in the southeast and knew that we wanted something very different from the beach scene we were used to. We started looking out west and came across Red Rock Canyon. It was nothing like we had ever seen. Traveling out west and exploring a beautiful new place on top of getting married really made our weekend feel like a dream.

Katie and Wes’s Dreamy Outdoor Stanley, Idaho Wedding *

Katie and Wes’s Dreamy Outdoor Stanley, Idaho Wedding *

This dreamy, family-focused wedding filled the wide-open Stanley, Idaho spaces with love, miracles, and tears. After many obstacles were thrown their way, Katie and Wes transformed their large celebration into a day that prioritized their love, cherished loved ones, and Stanley.

After exchanging “I do’s” surrounded by jaw-dropping mountain views, wedding planner Emily Aitken Eventsassisted in bringing this backyard reception to life. The spring-inspired floral arrangements by Historia Florals—along with the draped twinkle lights—beautifully brightened the rustic cabin backdrop.

These sweet memories captured by Junebug member Autumn Lynne Photography will have you reaching for tissues—but don’t stop here. Keep scrolling to soak up the moments that made this a truly unforgettable celebration that proves sometimes less is more

More From Autumn Lynne Photography On This Stanley Idaho Wedding

I loved this elopement because of the human connection, the struggle behind making it happen, and the beautiful location. Katie and Wes went through a rollercoaster of emotions and decisions while planning their wedding day. After setting a date and booking a venue they found out that a family member had cancer. They decided to postpone, trading their traditional wedding plans for an elopement in Stanley, Idaho.

Eight months prior to their wedding Katie had an accident that left her facing multiple surgeries and the possibility of not being able to walk on their wedding day. After months of recovery and physical therapy, Katie beat the odds. She would be able to walk on their wedding day! Knowing the struggle and hardships these two faced during their wedding planning journey made being a part of their elopement day really special for me.

The Couple:

Katie and Wes

The Wedding:

Stanley, Idaho

A Nostalgic Elopement Location

Stanley, Idaho and the Sawtooths Mountains are particularly special to me because that’s where Wes told me he wanted to have a family with me someday. I’ve imagined that this will be a place we take our kids and families for years to come. It’s also probably one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. Our wedding planning was overshadowed by a lot of not-so-exciting things. Despite all of this, I’ve felt so happy thinking about what lies ahead for Wes and me. Our wedding is a symbolic start to something bigger.

Surrounded By Loved Ones In The Place They Love Most

All of our immediate family was able to make it. It meant the world to us that we could have our parents, our sisters, brothers, and some of their kids with us on our wedding day. We’re also very proud that our ceremony was officiated by Wes’s close friend, Nathan, who nailed it. We couldn’t have asked for a better officiant in a more perfect place. We were surrounded by love in a place we love. Finally, we had a badass playlist that we made ourselves, with songs that we compiled while we worked on puzzles during quarantine.

Little Moments That Made Up An Unforgettable Celebration

The entire weekend felt like a dream. I got to spend time with my family who live across the country. I was also able to walk—after being off my feet for two and a half months following a nasty accident and surgery—down the aisle with my dad and dance with my groom. My wedding taught me that it really is the simple things that make life beautiful.

Working With Photographer Autumn Lynne

Our photographer Autumn was amazing. Not only does she have a talent for catching important moments, but she does an amazing job capturing the natural beauty in a place like Stanley. We knew the second we saw her images that we wanted to work with her. We were even more delighted when we started to get to know her as a person because she is so lovely. She made us feel at ease, didn’t force us into strange positions or unnatural shots. She let us be us and we wouldn’t have wanted to have anyone else with us during such intimate moments.

Karen and Liam’s laid-back Samhain wedding *

Karen and Liam’s laid-back Samhain wedding *

Photos by Eadaoin Curtin

Offbeat partners: Karen and Liam

Date and location of wedding: Boyne Hill House, Co. Meath, Ireland — 11/27/2019

Our offbeat wedding at a glance: The general gist was that we wanted to get married and make our little family official — our kids were 13 years old (Beineán) and 10 months old (Róisín) so plenty to keep us distracted from wedding planning, and the wedding is a lovely day for them both to look back on.

We were both keen to keep the wedding as simple as possible — weddings contribute so much to landfill- and so we avoided buying random stuff online, and instead bought locally and pre-loved as much as possible. The venue had already decorated the venue beautifully for Halloween, we sourced beeswax candles from a nearby supplier, and we kept flowers simple, to just a bouquet for myself and bridesmaid, wrist corsages for the mothers and simple buttonholes for the men.

Róisin’s flowergirl outfit was bought preloved, and my dress and cape-veil were bargain finds!

I have Alopecia Universalis, have had it since 2006, and being bald is a completely normal way of life for me now. I don’t think anyone expected me to wear a wig or head covering on the day, and it took me a while to decide how to dress my head (other than with a bit of tan, a pair of simple drop earrings and a smile!).

I decided on the simple headdress, and I got the maker to add long narrow ribbons down the back, finished with a tiny diamante. I had to pull it pretty tight to keep it on, but I felt it finished the outfit. I have always joked I am cursed with veils, as my Holy Communion veil blew off my head into the River Liffey, and I reckoned I couldn;t have a wedding veil as I’d no hair to clip it into (unless I glued it to my bare scalp!), but I stumbled upon this cape veil in a Bridal Store sale, and it was perfect! I love how a veil can really transform an otherwise simple dress.

Tell us about the ceremony:
I work as a Legal Wedding Celebrant here in Ireland, so it was important for me to step back and let our Celebrant lead the way for us. I really enjoyed being the Bride (for a change!), and our ceremony was beautiful.

We mostly wanted our children included, so we included them in the Unity Candle ceremony, and our 13-year-old son Beineán sang a beautiful song for us (Glen Hansard’s Song of Good Hope) during the ceremony.

Our nieces and nephews read a line each of an edited version of Bob Marley’s “Not Perfect”, and my mother wrote and a Marriage Reflection she’d written for us. I entered to Sigur Ros Hoppipolla, and we exited to Starship “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”, keep it cheesy!

We were so delighted to get the weather to hold the ceremony outdoors, and the venue provided blankets to our guests. We got married on Samhain weekend, so it was a lovely sense of that threshold time between seasons — and we were blown away that the weather was so kind to us! To get crisp sunshine and blue skies in Ireland in late November is a minor miracle, to say the least!

Tell us about the reception:
We had a Guinness and Prosecco reception (Guinness looks great in a prosecco glass!), followed by a Guard of Honour with Sparklers to bring us to the dining room when darkness fell (Halloween is a great time to get married!).

I loved our Halloween Cake, it was made by my friend Nicola Grant at Impact Cakes, and was inspired by the witchy woods at Halloween.

Our first dance was “Landslide,” sung by Liam’s sister Liza.

What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding?
It goes so fast! Nominate someone to watch the time while you’re getting ready, so you can relax into the prep.

If you have a small baby, identify someone in advance to take them during your meal & speeches. Other than that, just enjoy!

Also, I have set up a non-denominational, not-for-profit organization to hold ceremonies (including legal wedding ceremonies) to serve people who have been ostracised, marginalized, or otherwise left behind by traditional faith paths on the basis of gender, race, sexual orientation, ability, nationality, parental/family status or any other reason.
