Easy-Going Big Sur Wedding at Ragged Point Inn *

When a couple describes their wedding vision as easy-going and free-spirited, it’s certain to be fun and full of personal touches. That’s exactly how Elizabeth and Austin described their Big Sur wedding at Ragged Point Inn

When it came time to start wedding planning, the couple knew that they wanted to tie the knot in the place where Elizabeth said “yes!” during a hike. With the help of expert planner Engaged Life, their love for the ocean shined through as they said “I do” in a ceremony that overlooked the seaside cliffs.

The two followed their ceremony with a reception amidst the pines, complete with a twinkle light canopy, soul music, pampas grass and florals from Plain Jane Posy, and a record player guest book. Now that’s how to make a wedding unique to a couple. We’re glad that Junebug member Carmen Lopez Photography was there to capture the love, laughs, and everything in between!

A Memorable—And Sunny—Walk Down The Aisle

Big Sur is known for majestic views and rolling fog, so it was no surprise that there was a low hanging fog on our wedding day. The air was warm, and everything looked mystical–like we were inside a dewy cloudland, nestled next to the mountains and at the edge of the coast. As I got ready to walk down the aisle the sun came bursting through the clouds. Soaked in light, I emerged to see my groom standing at the arbor. He was fighting back tears, and I could feel everything–the sun on my back, the smiles from the crowd, and the intensity of the commitment we were making to each other in front of all our loved ones. The sun stayed shining through our ceremony, where we exchanged our handwritten vows, and I will truly never forget that moment.

Why Ragged Point Inn

Austin proposed to me on a hike in Big Sur, and I knew that I wanted to get married in what we believe is the most magical place. We knew we wanted an outdoor wedding and a place that our guests could stay on site. This was extremely limiting in the Big Sur area, so when we discovered Ragged Point Inn, we knew it had to be our venue.

California Rustic Wedding at Cordiano Winery *

California Rustic Wedding at Cordiano Winery *

High school sweethearts Taylor and Tyler’s rustic wedding at Cordiano Winery was the perfect mix of romantic and whimsical. The couple hired Sisti & Co. to help them create a day that was an authentic celebration of their years of love. With soft pink decor, an abundance of pink and white flowers, and lush greenery, the couple’s vision of an intimate day at a winery came to life in a truly breathtaking way.

If romantic bridal fashion is your thing, we can’t wait for you to see Taylor’s Willowby by Watters a-line lace tulle gown paired with sparkly floral Badgley Mischka heels. The dress perfectly matched the dreamy vibes of the day. With all of the thoughtful goodness, we’re thankful that talented photographer and Junebug member Kami Olavarria was there to capture every sentimental detail—including portraits with the family dogs.

A Memorable First Look

The most memorable part of our day was the first look. We went back and forth on whether the first time we’d see each other that day would be at the ceremony or during a first look. Both shaking, and tears falling as soon as we saw each other—we are so over the moon that we chose to make that a special moment for just us.  It was a moment of excitement and relief at the same time that our day was finally here, and it was just getting started.

Personalizing the Ceremony With A Close Officiant

Neither of us are religious and we wanted our ceremony to still hold that level of importance. We chose a mutual best friend of ours to officiate. He did such an incredible job—you could feel the love, friendship, and humor. Everyone said that our ceremony was “totally us,” and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

A Sweet Wedding Day Surprise

I surprised my new husband with a gelato cart during the reception. It was worth it when I saw him dancing his little butt off with a cup of mint chocolate chip gelato and a huge smile!

Tropical Industrial Millwick Wedding, Full of Laid-Back Vibes *

Tropical Industrial Millwick Wedding, Full of Laid-Back Vibes *

Does it get any better than an industrial and tropical wedding? We don’t think so. Lauren and Julian’s tropical day at the industrial Millwick in LA plays up the venue’s lush aesthetic perfectly. One look at the ceremony space and you would think we were in Tulum.

The beautiful white and green flower arrangements by Best Day Ever Floral Design totally pop against the brick interior, and we can’t get enough of the couple portraits the two took with Gabriel Conover outside on the streets of Los Angeles. The couple–with the help of Pop The Champagne Events–clearly paid attention to all of the small details, and we love every minute of it. So, get those Pinterest boards ready, Junebabes, because this one is totally pinnable.

The Couple:

Lauren and Julien

The Wedding:

Millwick, Los Angeles, California

Why A Millwick Wedding

The question we always asked ourselves when touring a venue was, “Is this the kind of place we would hang out at?” Walking into Millwick’s quirky, tropical-meets-industrial space–with tons of lush greenery and a low-key, casual vibe–felt like a place we would grab a drink—if it were open to the public. I think we decided before our tour even started that it was going to be the place.

A Quiet Moment Before The Ceremony

There’s a photo of us in the couple’s suite before the ceremony. We’re sitting in two armchairs, holding hands and chatting. It was a small moment where we were preparing for what was about to unfold–what five years of love led up to. It’s my favorite picture of the day.

Personalizing The Ceremony With Friends & Family

Instead of having a flower girl, we opted for “flower grandmas!” Both of our grandmothers did tremendous work helping raise us, and we wanted to make them part of the procession somehow. We had them walk down together and hand out flowers to our guests, which ended up being one of our favorite moments. We also had our moms do a couple of readings from authors that were meaningful to us–Shel Silverstein for him, Haruki Murakami for me. To top it all off, our friend Nick graciously agreed to officiate and marry us. He’s known us both as friends and as a couple, so he was the perfect choice. Together we collaborated on a ceremony script that was short, sweet, and best of all, uniquely us.

Wedding Advice From The Bride

Make peace with the fact that you probably won’t have the time or budget for every single thing in your wedding planning vision. You may set out wanting x, y, and z, but all of a sudden, z is no longer attainable for whatever reason. This happened to me with custom invitations. Initially, I wanted a custom-designed invite, but after prioritizing my list of must-haves, I realized it wasn’t as important to me as having other things.

Laid-Back Tropical Wedding Day Vibes

Millwick is a cool, unconventional venue with a tropical-industrial aesthetic and we really wanted to embrace that. So we opted to keep the florals tropical yet modern in terms of the color palette. We stuck to creams and muted pastels accented by pops of amber and lots of tropical greenery. Annie–our florist–kept things from becoming too monotonous by playing up textures and hues.

Romantic Fairytale California Wedding at Laughing Canyon *

Romantic Fairytale California Wedding at Laughing Canyon *

Imagine a weekend full of cozy cabins, redwood trees, fire pits, and the slow trickle of a nearby creek as the soundtrack of your weekend. That’s exactly what Alyssa and James experienced at their romantic fairytale wedding at Laughing Canyon. The couple knew they wanted something a bit more unconventional rather than a traditional wedding day. They wanted a 3-day event that their guests’ would never forget. Thanks to planner LJ Oneto, the weekend was just that.

Their special day alone was filled with lush forest views, a wedding dress that the bride designed herself (yes!), a custom rust-colored suit that contrasted perfectly with the trees, craft cocktails, a taco truck, and late-night paella. Those are just five of the epic details that Alyssa and James included. Ready to be transported to a fairytale-esque summer camp? Keep scrolling to see all of these details, beautifully captured by Brandon Scott Photo Co.

The Couple:

Alyssa and James

The Wedding:

Laughing Canyon, Davenport, California

The Bride’s Custom Wedding Dress

I envisioned myself as a flower that bloomed in the woods. I carefully placed the flowers from my lace as though they were the leaves falling and gathering on the forest floor. Scattered Swarovski crystals show the glimpses of light shining through the trees. And my husband truly makes me feel like a queen, so I wanted to represent that in my dress. I came up with a cape dripping in pearls, with crystal and pearl floral embellished neckline.

Why Laughing Canyon

I am known for my loud, boisterous laugh. So when I saw this place, I took it as a sign. We booked a trip to see it and didn’t know where we were going–it was off the grid. As we pulled in surrounded by trees on this narrow road, I started crying. It was the most beautiful special place I had ever been to. And there it was–the feeling that I was missing from the other venues. A place so special that it equally matched how unique our love is.

An Unconventional Wedding Day Vibe

We didn’t follow the rules. We wanted to create an experience–one big party the whole weekend long. We’re talking glamping tents on site for our bridal party, handcrafted cocktails upon arrival, no seating chart, paella cooked onsite, and a gourmet taco truck. We wanted to bring the people we love together in an unfamiliar but gorgeous place and have them experience things we love–nature, massive trees, adventure, craft cocktails and food, laughing, and—most importantly—each other.

Wedding Day Advice From the Couple

We recommend giving yourself enough time to plan. Obviously it’s not for everyone, but make the whole thing your own. It’s easy to book the package, have the coordinator choose, or have your parents make the decisions, but this should be a once in a lifetime experience of your own. It’s a lot of work, but we treated it like we were creating this beautiful project together. It helped us grow closer, learn about each other, and see what we could do when we put our minds together as a couple.

Classy Rustic Los Angeles Wedding at The 1909 *

Classy Rustic Los Angeles Wedding at The 1909 *

Simple yet classic backyard-vibes are some of our favorites when it comes to weddings–especially for those looking for a more lowkey event. And although Kelsey and Adam’s LA wedding at The 1909 wasn’t in their backyard, it felt exactly like that.

Complete with an outdoor ceremony and taco dinner underneath the lush trees and a night full of dancing, drinks, and donuts, the couple’s wedding was nothing short of elegant. The stunning neutral floral designs from Bloom Babes perfectly matched the minimalist table decor and romantic twinkle lights to create a night full of love. We’re so thankful that Brocoff Photography was there to capture this fairytale-esque evening because we simply can’t get enough.

The Couple:

Kelsey and Adam

The Wedding:

The 1909, Los Angeles, California

Personalizing the Wedding

Adam and I wanted to save something for just the two of us to share, so we ended up writing our vows and reading them privately before the ceremony. We also had Eddie–our dog–walk down the aisle just before I did. It was hilarious. He knows how to work the crowd, and it was sweet to have him by my side throughout the ceremony.

Simple Wedding Vibes at The 1909

We went with a clean, simple, backyard BBQ kind of style, with 100 of our closest friends and family. The ceremony and dinner took place outdoors, so you actually felt like you were in a beautiful backyard. After we finished tacos and speeches, we went inside the venue for a night full of dancing and live performances!

Planning A Wedding On A Budget

Adam and I were somewhat on a budget–hello down payment on a house in LA–so we didn’t want to go overboard on decorations or stuff we’d never see/use again. Whenever we discussed something we wanted to purchase and pricing was in question, we’d ask ourselves if we’d ever use it again–that helped decide if we needed it or could live without it.

The Most Memorable Moment Featuring the Family Dog

It’s true when they say the whole day goes by in a blink. It was the quickest day of my life, and every second was my favorite. If I had to choose just one, it would probably be when we sat down for dinner. We had a sweetheart table, so we could see all of our favorite people chatting with one another. The sun was setting, and the string lights throughout the yard were glowing. Our dog, Eddie, came over to us and laid down by our feet, Adam and I squeezed each other’s hand and looked at each other with a smile as if to say “we did it!” It was a special moment that I’ll never forget.
