Perfectly Boho Joshua Treehouse Elopement

While your wedding day is one of the most memorable days of your life, it’s also typically one of the most wasteful. So we love it when photographers and planners organize styled shoots that focus on sustainability. This perfectly boho Joshua Treehouse elopement–organized by photographer Eunice Beck–used vintage clothing and decor, dried florals, and the beauty of the Tucson desert to prove that sustainability is still stunning.

From the 70s inspired outfits in the pre-wedding portraits to the use of vintage rugs and floor pillows in the ceremony space, every detail was well-thought-out. Not to mention the pampas grass covered reception tables which were expertly executed. So whether you’re planning your own dreamy desert elopement or you’re just looking for ways to be more eco-conscious, you’re going to want to keep scrolling to see more of this one.

Bright, Unique, And Mid Century Modern Elopement *

Bright, Unique, And Mid Century Modern Elopement

A vintage mid-length dress, a DIY vibrant bouquet, and an Airbnb wedding venue—these were the unique ingredients used to bring Annelise and Joel’s mid-century modern elopement to life. This Palm Springs loving couple wanted a simple wedding day that was achievable but still show-stopping. A nuptial that was infused with their personalities, without breaking the bank

From the bride’s DIY bouquet—which she created the day before her wedding—to the fully vintage attire, no detail Junebug member Carmen Lopez Photography captured was short of amazing. Whether you’re looking for budget-friendly wedding ideas or creative ways to incorporate loved ones in your elopement, this Southern California celebration is the perfect place to draw inspiration from

Carmen Lopez’s Thoughts On This Mid Century Modern Elopement

Annelise and Joel put so much work into the details behind their big day. Though it was super important to keep this intimate day about their love for each other, they wanted to incorporate their loved ones. Her best friend made their cake, his best friend officiated the ceremony, and hand-made them all dinner after the celebration. It was truly a team effort!

Don’t Stress Over Small Details

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by options or Pinterest ideas. It’s completely understandable to want a beautiful perfect day but once it comes at the expense of your sanity it’s time to just pick one and push forward. Most of the time your initial instinct is the right one anyway. At the end of the day none of those factors are going to be important in your everyday marriage.

Saving Money With A DIY Bridal Bouquet

We wanted our wedding planning process to be achievable and budget-friendly. Not wanting to spend too much on flowers, Annelise and a friend hit the Los Angeles Flower Mart the Wednesday before the wedding. We had a few inspiration photos but mostly decided to wing it, following how-to-assemble-a-bouquet guides on the internet. Annelise did the assembling the night before the ceremony surrounded by a group of loved ones. It was fun, laid-back, and meaningful. Something that would not be possible with the chaos of a larger wedding celebration.

Advice For Narrowing Down Vendors

It obviously varies greatly depending on the scale of your wedding, but larger weddings can really overwhelm you with the amount of choices. When it comes to wedding vendors, our biggest piece of advice is to sit down with your significant other and take turns sharing your top vendors. This will save you from having to look at 100 different options.

A Short, Sweet, And Personalized Ceremony

The actual ceremony, though short, was very much tailored to us. Rather than traditional vows, we both spoke about our relationship, our future, and what we loved and cherished about our relationship. Our friends spokeabout our individual friendships and how they have seen our relationship with each other grow. Our small terrier Bindle was our special guest who delighted everyone with her floral corsage

Involving Loved Ones In Your Elopement

We involved our guests as much as possible. Our witness—Annelise’s best friend Kat—made the wedding cake and brought a Day of the Dead cake topper. We all like a little touch of spookiness and we love the slightly off quality these little totems have. Our witness’ mom also made us some last-minute tablescape textiles. Even though we didn’t DIY those ourselves it was a really sweet contribution to our celebration.

Working With Photographer Carmen Lopez Photography

After reviewing probably sixty wedding photographer’s websites, we finally came across Carmen Lopez Photography. We were limited because our date was last minute and we’re so lucky to have found her. When she showed up ready to party in a coverall jumpsuit we knew we had made the right choice. While taking photos the desert wind picked up and Carmen was such a pro at moving us around, shifting, and relocating to get amazing pictures. We’re both pretty awkward in front of a camera and are so happy with how Carmen’s photos turned out.

Seriously Romantic Kelowna Cabin Elopement *

Seriously Romantic Kelowna Cabin Elopement *

From the clear, glassy lake to the tall pine trees, this romantic cabin elopement is not only stunning, but also sustainable. Sydney and Mark, and a few other couples, worked with pop-up elopement team Elope BC to split the cost and waste of a traditional wedding. However, the split didn’t take away their ability to personalize their day. To add that personal, sentimental touch to their sustainable elopement, Sydney and Mark included their children. On top of that, their 5 guests warmed the rings with their blessings and warm wishes.

To further cut down on waste, the design of this elopement only used local and sustainable ingredients, including a foam-free floral design. If you’re looking for eco-friendly inspiration, keep scrolling to see this romantic cabin elopement captured by Junebug member Joelsview Photography.

Eloping With Little Ones In Tow

We included our children that day. Our son was 18-months-old at the time and we were five months pregnant with our daughter. Pregnancy and toddlers created some unique challenges, but it was worth it to have the entire family included. We cherish those memories and photos.

A Memorable Morning

The region of British Columbia we live in is known for wildfires and wildfire smoke. We were unfortunately surprised with very thick wildfire smoke the morning of our wedding. Of course, wildfire smoke is never a good thing, but it was definitely memorable. The smoke created a really unique and dreamy feeling both visually and spiritually. The photos especially reflect that moody, sultry vibe.

An Outdoor Romantic Cabin Elopement

We both grew up in heavily forested regions of British Columbia and spent a lot of time outside. It was only natural for us to be married outside. The mountains, lake, and trees created the perfect natural backdrop for us.

Personalizing Their Elopement

Our wedding was small with only five guests so we were able to easily include them in the ceremony. We did a ring warming. The rings were passed around in a box and each person held them for a few moments and silently warmed them with their blessings and well wishes.

Elegant Tahoe National Forest Elopement *

Elegant Tahoe National Forest Elopement *

Just a year and a half ago, elopements were considered a pretty abnormal and unique wedding style. That changed thanks to the pandemic, and now more couples are opting to tie the knot in intimate ceremonies than ever. We couldn’t be happier to be seeing more elopements than ever. The changes in opinion about elopements opened the door to every couple unsure about whether to elope or throw an elaborate party. When it came time to plan their own wedding, Hannah and Trevor knew they wanted to say “I do” with just a few of their closest family members. Their dreams of an epic outdoor elopement began.

The couple–along with their pup–hiked to Upper Sardine Lake, where they exchanged vows before capturing forest portraits with photographer Elsa Boscarello. And although we’ve seen our fair share of weddings, we’ve never seen the “reception in a bag” that they put together for their guests. There’s no better way to celebrate than with mini champagne bottles, cupcakes, and In N’ Out fast food.

Not sure if an elopement is right for you? You’ll be sold once you see these beautiful photos!

The Couple:

Hannah and Trevor

The Wedding:

Sardine Lakes, Sierra City, California

A Memorable Sprained Knee

Aside from Hannah spraining her knee on the rocks, the most memorable part of the day was getting dressed behind a tree just off-trail! We were lucky the day was so cold so very few people were hiking in the area. It gave us enough time to have a moment of semi-privacy.

Why A Tahoe National Forest Elopement

The single most important factor that dictated the shape of our wedding was having Hannah’s sister, brother, and sister-in-law safely attend as witnesses, so we knew we wanted to be in a secluded outdoor area. Being avid hikers, we looked straight to the mountains and let the natural beauty of the Sierras be the backdrop of our ceremony. Sardine Lake stuck out as being on public lands, and the short one-mile hike to the upper lake was a bonus. We couldn’t wait to drag our guests on a hike for our elopement. It was the perfect mix of accessible, secluded, and adventurous.

Wedding Advice From The Groom

Spend time thinking deeply about what you need from your wedding. When everything is taken off the table and you can only bring back a few core pieces, you’ll be surprised by what stays and what goes. We hope that couples in the near future will be able to do this by choice rather than necessity. The practice of starting from a “minimum viable wedding” can be freeing.

A Unique Wedding Favor

We built a “reception in a bag” for our guests, since we didn’t have an in-person reception. The bags included mini champagne bottles, our favorite cupcakes, cake sparklers, a custom coaster, and an In-N-Out gift card so we could still treat everyone to dinner, drinks, and dessert!

Venue – Upper Sardine Lake
Floral Design – The Little Flower Shop

Brigi and Bianka’s Dramatic Icelandic Seaside Elopement *

Brigi and Bianka’s Dramatic Icelandic Seaside Elopement *

Iceland is known for its dramatic cliff sides and towering waterfalls, so it’s no surprise that Brigi and Bianka chose it for their seaside elopement when their original plans were canceled. From handwritten vows in front of Kvernufoss Waterfall to portraits around Dyrhólaey Lighthouse, these two stunning brides let Iceland’s natural beauty serve as their wedding day decor.

The portraits beautifully captured by Styrmir Kári & Heiðdís Photography are sure to transport you to a magical land far, far away–and what more could you ask for in an elopement? So keep scrolling and get those wedding boards ready because this one is sure to inspire you to plan your own destination “I do’s.”

An Epic Backdrop At The Icelandic Seaside Elopement

The vibes in Iceland are otherworldly. We were in awe of this feeling of freedom and harmony everywhere in nature. We wanted to feel comfortable, so we chose a simple jumper-skirt combo and let the scenery be the focus. It was all very intimate, and we were on our own for most of the places we visited, which was really nice.

Dealing With COVID Wedding Planning Stress

The atmosphere before the wedding was stressful. We had to cancel our wedding in Spain because of COVID, so we decided to elope. But everything was uncertain until the last minute. Our flights were canceled three times–the last being the day before our departure. But once we arrived in Iceland, we forgot about all of that. Eloping was the best decision for us because, in retrospect, we avoided a lot of wedding drama–especially because not all of our family is accepting of same-sex marriage.

Why The Couple Recommends Eloping

It’s so nice to share your moment with the one who truly matters. Don’t spend a fortune on one day. Instead, have a two-week honeymoon in a place where you can really soak up the beauty and the feeling of this new journey beginning together. Having it be just the two of you gives you plenty of freedom and reduces stress immensely.
